Emily's 8th Birthday
Emily turned eight. It's still hard for me to believe that she's eight. These years have flown by and it has been such a joy to see her grow up into the beautiful and sweet girl she is. She is an eternal optimist and always sees the brighter side of things. She is extremely artistic and it's very rare to find her not drawing, sketching, or creating something. On those rare occasions she is not making a craft, we will find her playing legos or reading a book. She is so gifted with learning things easily and she loves school! She is still taking piano lessons and God has given her an amazing ear!
She shows true empathy for those in need and is so willing to help in anyway she can. There have been many times that she has encouraged Nelson and me to be better just by regular things she says and does. She adores her brother and is his biggest champion!
Emily is such a gift to our family and we are so grateful that God entrusted her to us.
We can't wait to see what the next eight years will bring for her! :)
We let the kids choose what food we eat on their birthdays. Emily asked for homemade PopTarts for breakfast. They were yummy! :)
Alex bought her some Doctor Who lego figurines. Doctor Who is one of her favorite shows and she had no idea that they made toys based on the show. It was a big hit!! :)
We also bought her some Doctor Who toys - you can tell by the look on her face that she was excited!
Her big gift this year was getting her ears pierced. She had wanted to do it last year but when the moment came, she changed her mind. This year she was so brave and so strong! They normally pierce both ears at the same time, but there was only one person working at the shop - that meant one ear at a time. She didn't shed a tear and she was so composed! She was amazing!! :)
For dinner, Emily requested pulled pork, cornbread and baked beans. We love that the kids aren't picky eaters and we all enjoyed that meal greatly! (Thank you, Nelson, for manning the grill for 20 hours!) :)
And it wouldn't be a birthday without some kind of sweet dessert. Emily requested blackberry pie this year and since we all like pie more than cake, we didn't argue! :)

We had Emily's 8th Birthday party at Michael's Craft Store, where nine of her friends all tie dyed tshirts. They had so much fun and they loved wearing them the next week to school -- everyone matching and talking about how fun the party was! :)
Emily and I decorated these cupcakes for her party and we had so much fun working together on it. I have to say too, that they turned out quite beautifully! :)
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, EMILY! WE LOVE YOU!
