Fall Fun and Halloween

It was a beautiful Fall here and we had such beautiful colors!!
We were able to go hiking a few times and we always love that time together!  :)

Isn't this such a great picture?!  They fight like cats and dogs, but then the next minute they LOVE each other like no one else.  :)

I took the kids to a park one weekend and after some hiking, they played on the jungle gym.
They were having so much fun that I had to bribe them to get them into the car to come home!!  :)

We found this nearby farm to get pumpkins at this year.
They even let us go meet the pigs, cows and roosters.  It was so much fun!!

Of course the kids picked out the largest pumpkins they could find!!  :)

Our silly vampire...
 Happy Halloween!
Emily was an owl this year.
 And Alex was a ninja.

We went Trick-or-Treating around our neighborhood with friends and their son.  Ian pretended to shoot Alex and then Alex fell in their driveway as if he had been wounded -- it was so cute!!  :)
Here's the candy haul for the year -- way more than we've gotten in all the years before combined!  We'll have this easily until next Halloween!

Alex's Bike Accident

So, we had one "exciting" day this summer.  We were playing in the backyard with friends after church and after they went home, we decided to ride our bikes down to our favorite ice cream shop.
(Are you catching a theme?  We really like ice cream!)
Anyway, while the kids were waiting for us to get ready and out the door, Alex decided to get on his bike and ride around.  This is ok, except that he decided to do some serpentine tricks while on his bike and he crashed.  Praise God he crashed right in front of our house (and in front of me) and not around the block, where we might not have gotten to him so quickly.  I ran out to him right away and it was obvious he was hurting.  We rushed him to the ER and he ended up getting two stitches in his chin.

He was covered in road-rash and complained that his jaw hurt.  The doctors patched him up, did an x-ray to make sure his jaw wasn't broken, and then sent us home.

The Child Life Specialist brought in a cloth doll to show Alex what would happen to him - giving the doll stitches, washing it's "chin", and bandaging it up.  It really put his mind at ease and he was so excited to be able to bring the doll home!  He even took it to school the next day for show and tell!  :)
Two little stitches in the end of his chin.  They stayed in until Saturday when Nelson took them out.
They were both so brave!  ;)

The whole way to the hospital he kept saying "This is NOT fun.  This is NOT fun."  And of course he was worried that we wouldn't be able to get ice cream.  We assured him that we would go the following day for a treat -- but the nurses were sweet and brought him a popsicle.  They were so good to him!  :)

We left the ER around 9 (about 5 hours after arriving) and we were all exhausted!

Proud of his battle wounds!  :)

Alexander and his spectacularly exciting, wonderful, very good day!

Alex won the Summer Reading Contest this year and got First place in all the first graders in the building.  He's become a very good reader and we are so proud of him!!  :)

Geocaching and other fun with Nana & Papa Willis

Mom and Dad Willis came out to visit over Labor Day Weekend and we took them to the butterfly house.  The kids had just as much fun as they had earlier in the summer, and we even got to do some geo-caching on our way home!  :)

The butterflies loved Nana & Emily and the butterflies kept landing on them.  It was so much fun to see their smiles and to hear Emily's giggles!  :)

Emily found this geo-cache -- she was so proud of herself!!  :)

We went down to the Tow Path and rode bikes and did some more geo-caching.  It was a beautiful day!!

The kids wanted to show Nana and Papa how fun it is to coast down the hill next to our house.

They even got Nana to take a turn!!  :)

One last trip for geo-caching before they left.  The kids LOVE doing this and they look forward to it every time Mom and Dad come out to visit!  :)

We were going to walk down to Scoops for ice cream, but they were closed because of the holiday.  So, Blizzards, DillyBars and slushies instead!  :)
Alex and Papa horsing around - they are cut from the same cloth!!  :)

It was such a fun visit!!  :)
