Just some more pictures . . .

Nursery

Yesterday was Emily's first time in the church nursery and she did wonderfully! The lady that took care of her said she was an angel (of course) and was perfect -- she didn't even want to give her back, she was so perfect! :) You'd never guess she had such a good time when you see her in this picture, huh?!

1 Month Check-up

Emily's 1 Month Check-up was today. She was weighed, measured and given her second Hep B shot. She now weighs 9 lbs 13 ozs and is 21.5" long. Dr. Joyce said she's in the 50 percentile and doing really well. She was really pleased with how alert Emily is and said this is why she's not sleeping at all during the day but really well at night. She also said how happy she was with how Emily responds to voices and locks her eyes onto whoever is speaking. We knew she was "advanced"! :)

She responded well to the shot -- didn't even cry at the doctor's office. Here is a picture of her with her bandaid on her little leg -- poor little thing, huh?

Her next appointment is in a month for another round of vaccinations -- but we'll post plenty before then! :)

First Trip Away From Home

We went to PA yesterday through today to visit Nelson's sister, Krissy, and her family. It was our first trip away from home with Emily and I have to say that it went pretty well. Emily slept the whole 2.5 hrs out there and back and seemed to love meeting her aunt, uncle and two cousins! Here are some pictures of her with Shelby & Colesy -- aren't they cute together?! :)

Happy 1 Month Birthday, Emily!! :)

4 Weeks Old Today

Hard to believe how fast this time has gone by -- only four weeks ago today we were in the hospital waiting for her to be born. Wow -- I sound like my mom whenever it's my birthday -- "It was only 'so-many-years-ago' today that your father and I were taking a walk and I went into labor with you". Watch out Emily -- you might be like me someday! Or like your grandma if you're lucky! :)

It has been a long four weeks but exciting at the same time. We are trying to adjust to sleeping 2-4 hours at a time at night and loving those few times where she has slept 6-7 in one stretch! :) I am feeling like my old self more and more and loving the fact that I can walk around without pain (no more infection or pinched nerve)! Emily is much more alert (as you can see in these pictures) and starting to smile and respond more. She is an absolute joy and I can't imagine our lives without her now!

My parents came down this past weekend and left yesterday. It was nice to see them again and they loved seeing the changes in Emily. They are quite taken with her and it was fun to see them as the doting grandparents. :)

Other than that, not much is going on here. Nelson finally got over to the rental house last weekend to mow the lawn and make sure the house was still standing. But other than that, we haven't done any work since before Emily was born. Kind of some more important things going on I guess! ;)

Well, that's about it for today. Until next time . . .

The Visiting Nurse

When we were in the hospital, they asked us if we wanted a visiting nurse to come by the house a few weeks later and check up on us. We said that would be fine and we scheduled it for yesterday. Pam (the visiting nurse) came by and we chatted for about two hours. It was nice to have someone come by and check up on us and answer our stupid little questions. She weighed and measured Emily and as of yesterday she ws 8 lbs 13 ozs and 22" long (for those of you who can't keep up w/the stats -- since she was born she has gained 3 ozs and grown 1.5").

Emily slept really well again last night and only woke up at 3AM & 7AM -- Nelson and I are loving the extra sleep! :)

Other than that, not much going on here except a lot of snuggling & picture taking! I have a friend coming to visit today and then we're getting together with a bunch of friends tomorrow night as well -- it will be Emily's first "party". :)

So, until the next update . . .

3 Week Appointment

Yesterday was Emily's 3 Week Appointment and everything is great. She is back up to her birth weight of 8 lbs 10 ozs and Dr. Joyce said she is doing very well. She said Emily still looks a little jaundiced but is looking great! She was very pleased to see how alert she was and how strong she is growing.

We have another appointment scheduled for June 18th to get her next hep shot -- poor little girl!

Overall, we are doing really great! Emily is waking up once or twice a night to eat and sleeping really well afterwards. We are definitely enjoying the extra sleep at night and loving how alert Emily is now!

So, until next time . . .

Visitors

My sister has been here since last Wednesday and has been a huge help! We are having a great time just playing with Emily and trying to get her on a schedule. She has been eating and sleeping much better in the last few days and it has allowed us to have something resembling a real life. It has been very nice and we are all feeling much better! :)

My Aunt Faith and Cousin Christie came to visit this past weekend as well and we all had a great time together! As you can tell, they were quite smitten with her! Can anyone blame them? Look at her -- she's adorable! :)

Other than that, not much is going on. I'm feeling better every day (with the exception of a pinched nerve in my hip and back) and starting to feel like myself again!

Emily has another doctors appointment tomorrow morning and we are looking forward to seeing her progress in weight gain & development. Like I said earlier, she is eating much better in the last few days (less "snacking" per sae) and seems to be more alert as well. She is such a joy and we are loving this new addition to our family!

I'll try to post another blog tomorrow keeping you all updated on Emily's appointment. So, until then . . .
